Today was beautiful, amazing, awesome, gorgeous, all of the adjectives. Cash and I got up around 6am, made breakfast (eggs and bacon) and got ready to climb Black Elk Peak. We left the campsite around 8am for about an hour drive. The drive was amazing, not a straight bit to be had, several pig tail, corkscrew turns, and tunnels through the rock. I didn’t get any pictures on the drive, I was busy making sure I stayed on the road.
We got to Sylvan lake and hit the trail (Trail #9 South if you’re keeping track) under a cloudless morning sky.
I’m a view junkie, and I’ll sometimes take on more than I should to get get to the views. But, this trail was a good mix of strenuous climbs and gentle inclines so I could rest while still making progress on the gentle bits. Today I took a lot more pictures so without anymore todo, here they are:
Oh and I mentioned this in the gear list but my tent has built in LED Lights.
Breakfast, well the bacon at least, and yes I shared some with Cash.
At the trailhead ready to take on the summit.
Our destination, you can almost see the fire tower.
This bench still says Harney Peak, but they renamed it Black Elk Peak a few years ago after an Indian Medicine Man.

Some Flowers and Wild Raspberries I found along the way.
Robyn’s favorite color purple.

And now the Payoff….amazing views:

Finally I need to tell you that Cash stole the show, The peak was fairly busy, and everyone that stopped up there got a greeting from him. He was amazing today, and I could not have asked for a better hiking partner. He is a RockStar!!
